This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Meet the Class of 2029, the future college graduates and change agents of the world. My 6th Grade Advanced Work Class is driven to achieve. I am blessed to teach some of the smartest, most hardworking students in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston. They bring my room to life with their ideas, questions, and debates.
Each day, I am struck by the profound wisdom that these 6th graders have to offer.
As an urban public school teacher, my students face many challenges beyond school. Additionally, middle school can be a difficult adjustment for kids, both academically and socially. I want to make sure that they have every resource they need to be successful. With the right tools, I know there is no limit to what my students can accomplish!
My Project
When you were in middle school, did you have a genre that you just couldn't read enough of? For me, it was mysteries. For my students, it's graphic novels. My sixth graders simply devour these books. Every day, we read independently for at least 20 minutes. This is the best part of my students' day - a time to read whatever they want to read.
Your donation will help me give my students the graphic novels they request the most.
By giving the gift of high-interest books like these, you will keep my students motivated and engaged in their reading for the rest of the school year!
