Yes, this describes my student population! I teach art education to over 420 students per week. As an educator, I am always on a quest to teach my students skills that will help them both in school and in life beyond. We love discovering innovative ways to connect art to other subjects and to create a safe and caring environment in our classroom for all students.
My Project
I have just returned from the most amazing journey to Morocco on a teacher study tour and am so excited to introduce my students to the history and culture of this beautiful country.
We will begin our unit of study by looking at the various patterns, designs and colors used in Moroccan ceramic tiles and we will use these peel and stick (DIY) Moroccan tiles for our inspiration!
These beautifully colored tile stickers will also be placed in various places on our classroom wall and floor, inspiring us daily to see how often art and math connect! My students, using a myriad of math tools, will create their own Moroccan inspired ceramic tiles, understanding the rich significance of the colors and images used in Arabic art. What a great connection of Moroccan, Berber and Arabic culture this art lesson will be!
