Third grade is a huge hurdle for elementary students. My classroom is a place of challenge and celebration. Throughout the year, my third graders make the amazing transformation from learning to read to reading to learn. Every year, they impress me with all the reading and writing skills they gain. There are sure to be bumps and wrong turns, but these mistakes help us to grow and learn.
We have a wide variety of abilities, personalities, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds, but these qualities make our classroom community an amazing place to learn and play.
My students, this year, are full of energy and excitement for learning and are ready to tackle third grade!
My Project
The activities I am requesting will be used during arrival/morning work instead of worksheets. They all require collaboration, thinking, problem solving, and logical reasoning. These are an amazing alternative to worksheets and will give my students time to interact with classmates and "play" each morning. I know these will motivate my students to arrive to school on time.
These days there is little time for students to engage, and have a conversation with one another and fewer families are playing board games.
This project will change that for the children in my class this year and future years as well. They will learn and practice valuable communication skills as well as manners, turn taking, sportsmanship and countless others. Play is the BEST way to learn!!
