This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a small rural community. The unemployment rate in this town is 10% higher than the national average. The poverty level here is 124% higher than the national average.
Knowing these statistics, my students rise above their "fate" and strive to become better.
They work hard to not only be better students but also to make a better life for their self. I am honored to be a part of helping to "build" them up for a better tomorrow.
My Project
“Where can I incorporate more (learning while) play into our already busy day?” Turning morning work into morning tubs was the answer.
Our morning tubs will be filled with lots of manipualtives (for reading and math).
While students are ‘playing,’ they are also engaging with academic tools in a non-threatening way. They have the chance to explore new words with our Word Hangman. The games Jenga, Connect 4 and Sorry! will be connected to math skills.
Morning Tubs will benefit my students in a multitude of ways, including the following: promotes socialization, gives students choice, creates a positive classroom environment, thinking outside the box, collaborative learning, and provides opportunities for play.
