Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a dual-language kindergarten classroom in an elementary school with over 800 students in Providence, RI. The majority of our students come from low income backgrounds with over 95 percent of students eligible for free and reduced-price lunch.
Creative, willing to learn, playful and curious: my kindergarteners are ready to learn in various ways!
As English language learners, there are many foundational skills they will learn throughout their first year of school and I am so excited for a new year.
My Project
Every morning in my kindergarten classroom we hold a morning meeting which is a special part of the day that sets the tone for our learning. I write a message every day and it is important for students to be able to see it so an easel is needed in my classroom.
Students love morning meetings and this moving easel will make it easily accessible for all students, no matter where they are sitting, to see our morning message.
This easel will be used throughout the entire day; not just during the morning time. Students will be able to come up to the easel to help me write, draw, and express themselves daily.
We are constantly focussing on foundational skills within my classroom so games, math centers, and literacy resources are critical for my English language learners. These games will be perfect for center play, working with partners, and for students who may finish work early to grab and learn!
