Students in my classroom come to school with a desire to learn and grow. Some students live in homes with a strong sense of family and the value of education. However, there are several students in my class who don't have that type of influence at home and it transfers into the classroom. Our school in a small town and most of the families are hard working middle class families.
Students in my classroom have a sense of community but sometimes need help building strong positive relationships with one another.
They express their feelings in a variety of ways. Social skills are vital to their future success but not all students understand this skill.
My Project
These supplies will be used by students in the mornings when they arrive at school. Starting their day using their own imagination will help set a positive tone for the day. Supplies such as magnet tiles, Legos, and building blocks will allow students to build a variety of projects. Whiteboards and markers give students the chance to visually create their own ideas. Students will have the choice of what materials they want to use and what they want to do with those materials. They will start their days being creative and making their own choices.
These materials will allow my students to work in groups and use cooperative learning skills while developing their own individual ideas.
Often my students need the opportunity to talk to one another and learn through collaboration. These morning activities will give them numerous activities to build not only their imagination but their social skills, as well.
