This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is a bright and active group of five and six-year-old children. They love to create and tell stories. They love to read and be read to. They are quickly learning to work together, which is a vital skill in our world. My children work in small groups and independently throughout the day.
We grow in all areas by practicing and playing together.
Writing throughout the day in science, social studies, math, and even in art helps us in so many ways. We get noisy, but we learn so much together. We need supplies to grow as readers, writers, and illustrators. We need to show the colors of our ideas. There is so much to learn.
My Project
Learning to read is complicated. It includes using pictures and beginning letters to gain meaning from those wiggles that adults call letters. It includes sounding out and guessing.
The skills needed to read are many.
This adventure includes putting many words into long-term memory for quick recall. The more words that make this trip into memory, the smoother reading becomes. So many of our words cannot be easily decoded. Try to sound out "was." See?
The books requested here have awesome picture support. This will make reading more fun and less stressful. The books are designed to practice the most needed sight words.
