My students come from low-income families, and the majority are English as Second Language learners. They don't have the opportunities to play team sports outside of school, where they get the exercise they need. Most of them don't even play outside for safety reasons, so their overall health is lacking.
It is crucial that we give our students the opportunity to participate in a team sport to develop not only skills, but to learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and to work on their health.
My Project
My class sizes are becoming rather large, and we need more juggling scarves to learn how to juggle. We did not have enough for each student to have three, so we had to settle for just two each. That really wasn’t juggling. Some students did share, but that left others just standing around and not maximizing their time. Having more scarves would help tremendously.
The frisbees are needed to replace ours that are cracked and have been taped to get us through.
Plus some colors are no longer with us. We like to play a specific game with them that involves locomotor movements and aiming at a target. But since we have lost a few colors over time, it gets a bit confusing for teams. Having all the colors again would be great!
