This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students love being active and learning from hands-on experiences. They are excited when there is something new to explore in our classroom. The majority come from low-income homes. We are a very diverse classroom. Our families range in different occupations, differences in skills and abilities, personality traits, and value and attitudes. I have 18 children age range 3 to 5 year olds.
Through a variety of hands-on experiences, my young students develop motor skills, early writing skills, and explore different ways to express their own thoughts and emotions.
My Project
In my classroom, we celebrate diversity with books for little learners! Our theme, “Children Around The World,” every person is different and unique in their own way that’s unique. It’s up to us to teach students at this young age about embracing culture, diversity, and differences.
We will incorporate reading into our daily routine and have visitors come in to read to them.
By reading stories that discuss skin shades, cultures, clothes, and different foods from around the world they gain exposure to these topics. By embracing others’ cultures, genders, race, and abilities, we foster acceptance and help students develop empathy, an open mind, and love for one another.
Along with reading to them, we need to incorporate diversity in their play like in art, multicultural crayons, markers, construction paper, and passport stampers. In the block area, some architectural blocks and multicultural play foods and clothing in the dramatic play. These items are needed to extend our theme Children Around The World.
