Help me give my students creative, new, fun ways to learn about numbers. The Hot Dot Pens and cards will help make center time more interactive. The wipe off boards will allow students to actively participate in learning.
Our classroom is such an exciting community of mixed interests, abilities and goals. Some of my students are learning to write short stories, tell time and solve word problems while their classmates are learning how to read. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games and break out in a dance party.
In our classroom, we build a community around what we have in common and embrace our differences to help one another learn..
We are part of a larger school that embraces learning. As my students make gains, we celebrate them, no matter how small. The work we do in this classroom helps prepare us to be good friends, accept everyone and work together as a team!
My Project
Somewhere along the way Math became learning a set of formulas and rules. But what about the kids that struggle to remember those formulas and rules? What about the kids that can't just memorize? What about the kids that need a different approach to learning? So many students are hands-on learners and need opportunities and manipulatives to figure out how numbers relate to one another. In other words, they need time to discover and play in order to develop their number sense.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and more likely to remember what they have learned when they are given opportunities to figure it out on their own.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional manipulatives to understand number sense. The Hot Dot Pens and Cards will allow them to practice their addition, subtraction, and time telling skills during center time and have immediate feedback to check their work. The domino game will allow them opportunities to explore how numbers work together.
The wipe off boards will allow students to be actively engaged and practice writing during small and whole group instruction.
I have seen how manipulatives and a hands-on Montessori based approach can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
