My Students
I teach at a Title I school in Maine, where 75% of the student population receive free/reduced price lunch. As a teacher in a low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My goal as a teacher is to provide my students with what they need to succeed. One of my biggest priorities is ensuring my students have a safe and fun learning environment, something many lack at home.
Being a teacher in a low-income school district comes with a low budget for supplies, materials, and books.
Many families are not able to send their child to school with the necessary supplies, thus much of these classrooms supplies are provided by the teacher.
My Project
Providing students with more tables, will enable them to be able to spread out around the room during work time. Currently, my students are cramped together. Being so close to one another has been the cause of much disruption and off-topic chatter throughout the school day. With limited seating options, I am forced to overcrowd tables to accommodate everyone. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
My students are notably more engaged and less disruptive of their peers when they have more space to work.
The table I have selected would provide my students more seating options to make learning more effective, and working more productive. I have chosen this specific table to best accommodate the space within our classroom. I have seen how the simple act of giving space can positively affect attention, motivation, and demeanor within a classroom, and hope that this additional table will help us grow even more!
