My students need an iPad mini to use with the OSMO learning system for hands on creative problem solving, multi sensory spelling and math and learning coding skills.
My students have bright curious minds and they love learning new things! Because of their learning differences, sometimes school can be quite difficult. Things that other students might be able to do easily, my students have to work really hard to master.
My students have a variety of special needs such as Specific Learning Disabilities (for example, dsylexia), Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Significant Emotional Disabilities, which means that school for them can be discouraging and anxiety producing.
It is so exciting when my students are able to use technology to successfully tackle challenging problems. They feel empowered and are thrilled when they can solve higher level problems with hands on tools!
My Project
This project would provide an iPad mini for the Special Education students to use with the OSMO learning system the teacher purchased with her own money.
Students can use the iPad mini with OSMO to do exciting coding projects, creative interactive stories, multi sensory math and spelling, problem solving, tangrams, drawing and creating original music using the coding jam OSMO blocks.
With an iPad mini students can use the three dimensional tools with the OSMO to do computer coding to solve problems and create original music. They can use a white board and dry erase markers to draw pictures that are transferred into the animated stories on OSMO monster on the iPad. They can use the tactile numbers and letters to improve their spelling and math skills. With the OSMO pizza game students can explore running a business and dealing with money with a hands on tool rather than paper and pencil tasks.
My students were using OSMO on a daily basis with the school's iPad mini but because they were older versions the iPad mini would no longer compatible with the updated network system. The students really miss doing OSMO.
