Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are high school students in a special education program for transition to working life as adults. We work on functional academics in the classroom and visit several worksites throughout the week to develop vocational skills. We work on independent living skills and frequently talk with students about the independence they can strive for as adults.
Our students are hard-working and positive teenagers who have a variety of special needs.
We encourage our students to be responsible, kind, and respectful and they strive to live up to these expectations. We want them to learn more about all sorts of independent living skills.
My Project
In my classroom we work on functional, basic skills, such as cooking, calendar skills, time, and money. The materials I have asked for from Teachers Pay Teachers fall into these categories of basic skills, yet are going to offer my students variety.
My hope is that through variety, my students are more interested and more engaged in their learning.
We are focused on cooking quite often in our classroom and the visual recipes are ideal for students who may struggle with reading, but who desire to follow along with recipes. The markers are a great classroom basic to keep students involved creatively with drawing, while the Lysol wipes will help keep our classroom clean during cold and flu season!
