Our school celebrates diversity. We have families in the tech industry, many of who are new to the community. We are wonderfully diverse. No matter what their background, our students come to us ready to engage and be active in their learning.
As an emerging AVID school with over half our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, we have a tech-savvy student body and families who want to be involved in the learning of their students.
The parents get very excited to see the students doing things they never did in school. Whether creating digital work samples, making movies, or working in VR, our students are eager to push the limits of technology as they learn. Due to the limited availability of technology and outdated resources, my students’ access to current and cutting-edge technology is limited. Our school’s goal is to create opportunities where all students can work to make their learning active and engaging while preparing them for a future whose horizons are unknown. Oh yeah, and we also have an awesome soccer team. Go, Coachmen!
My Project
After teaching remotely for a few months, we've realized there are things we can do to make it better. Some of the items will be put to use in our Technology Library that we've been putting together, and a couple of things are to make my teaching life a little easier. All in all, this will be a good thing.
While working through our video production unit earlier, we realized there was more we could do, but we were lacking the physical materials.
These extra items will be available for students to check out and dive deeper into their areas of interest. The podcast kit can be checked out for students to use in creating their own podcasts, whether for fun or as assignment for another class. The headphones are helpful in sound editing. Additional materials, such as the printer, stand, keyboard, mouse, and USB ports are to be used in our Maker Space as we anticipate a transition to a hybrid model of teaching this Spring.
