Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teachers were notified of school closures at 4:45 on Friday, March 13th. We had all gone home after half a day with students and the other half with parent conferences. None of us realized that this was to be the last day of seeing our students face to face.
So much has changed.
It has been hard to reach all of my kiddos. I am now holding Zoom class meetings with about 15 and I am mailing various materials to 30 students on a weekly basis. I love being able to see the ones that have access, but we all miss being in the classroom and seeing the rest of the class.
My Project
At first, we were told the closure was only for 2 weeks. I thought that I understood what was happening, but I really didn't see the bigger picture.
Knowing now that we will not be back in our wonderful classroom this school has put things into perspective.
My district has been putting together packets, but it is difficult for parents to go and pick them up. Many of my students do not have reliable internet service, so distance learning is difficult. I really need to more send letters, paper puzzles, and books to my students!
This project will enable me mail fun postcards to my kiddos. Additionally, I would like to mail more reading books and a Mandala coloring book so my students can enjoy some art therapy!
