My students need more snacks and supplies for success in school. In addition, snacks and supplies can serve as incentive to put in extra time for extra help after school!
My students are cool and creative, exciting and exceptional, giving and grateful! Although many live in urban challenging neighborhoods, our school gives them a sense of community and a family. They are proud of their diversity of culture, religion, and ancestry. Many struggle with disabilities and learning English, but all of them try their best and exceed expectations, work hard, and care for one another. They are intellectually curious and open to trying new things and taking academic risks. Simply stated, they deserve the best!
My Project
Students cannot focus on academics when they are hungry and looking for a pencil! Several months ago I recieved a donors' choose package of snacks and pencils. Miraculously they were all consumed and now we need more. From the last supplies I can attest that the readily available snacks and pencils have made a tremendous difference in student commitment to their work and staying after school. Many of my students are not prepared with the appropriate supplies for learning. They often do not have pencils or they have one that needs sharpening. They also are often very hungry at the end of the school day. Their need for snacks served as a deterrent or excuse to participating in after school tutoring. Not since the snacks arrived!! Snacks and supplies, like mechanical pencils, gets these students to come afterschool for the help they need.
