We are part of a large district and have a high ratio of special education, economically disadvantaged, and English Language Learner students. At this time, our hard-working kids need additional support to pass the End of Course Exam that is necessary to graduate.
As their teacher, it is my desire to procure all the items and manipulatives I can to encourage my students' motivation to learn in a safe and comfortable environment.
Anything that might benefit them, is something I am willing to try, although finances might not always allow.
I have the best students in the world and want to teach them to the best of my ability so they have the skills necessary to be successful in school and life. Many of the educational philosophies today are to teach with our students' interests in mind, and that is my desire.
My Project
Last year was a year of destruction and rebuilding after the flood waters of Hurricane Harvey receded. Even now, over a year later, many in our school are still rebuilding and even still displaced from their homes. As an educator of students with these experiences, I strive to make math as interesting and applicable as possible. The additional TI Rovers requested in this project will help my students learn and apply mathematical concepts with coding and computer science. We will be able to experience math concepts with a hands-on interactive approach to engage and motivate students learning.
The TI Rover would empower my students to connect STEM concepts to real life.
Using our group sets of calculators, hubs, and few TI Rovers, students will learn to program the Rover to perform various tasks and learn to troubleshoot coding when the Rover is not performing properly. These additional Rovers will provide enough to have groups in the classroom working simultaneously within the class. They can have Rover crash at the intersection point as well as explore geometric angles and measurements to parallel park!
Integrating coding and computer science allows for cross-curricular studies and applications of content that could even help lead to career exploration. Coding is Algebra based and technology allows the students to see and use those connections. One of my ongoing goals is to help students see applications of math in the real world which the Rover could do by having the students apply math to drive their way to success! Projects like these allow students still rebuilding to have something new to build upon in their everyday life!
