Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher in a self-contained bridge classroom. Every year, classrooms are filled with children who are negotiating shared spaces, working together with friends, and stretching their minds to learn as much as they can. As teachers, our responsibility is to make their hard work worthwhile by making learning as engaging and enjoyable as possible. That's how lifelong learners are created, after all!
In a special education classroom, everything relies on differentiation, from organization and classroom management to facilitating independence while learning.
Every child in my classroom has a unique set of learning needs, and to reach all of them, I work to create systems that they can all access independently. Many of our posters, handouts, and activities require color to help our children navigate how they are organized. Many of our materials are also created individually for particular students, and the ability to create and print visual aids and templates "on the fly" is indispensable.
My Project
Our classroom is full of things that came from our printer: visual aids, procedure charts, enrichment work, books, and many of our games and puzzles, to name just a few! However, ink can become very expensive when it's being used to create individualized materials for a class of students. I am asking for enough color ink to create all of the visual aids, teacher-created materials, and personal charts that my children need to succeed academically. I also asked for some black ink to make sure we can always give our children the visuals that they need. These ink cartridges are bundled into 4-cartridge sets that each contain all of the colors we need and a high-yield black ink cartridge.
