My Students
My students have loved these books to death and want more!
The few copies we still have are falling apart, but we lack the funds to replace them. My students are in grades 6-8, and our school is a very diverse urban environment. Many of my students are struggling readers. Despite their challenges, they have fallen in love with books like Sharon Draper's Romiette and Julio and her Hazelwood High trilogy.
My Project
While it's always fun to explore new ideas and environments through literature, many of my students form a special connection with characters and situations they can relate to personally. My goal is to provide my students with the books that offer this opportunity to develop personal, meaningful connections to literature. These are the books that keep my kids reading and wanting more.
It's so much easier to help my students become stronger readers when they love what they're reading. These titles will connect my students to books they love and set them on the path toward becoming life-long readers.
