More Mighty Microbes!!!

My students need a variety of microscopic slides, like the Histopathology of Disease Slide Set, to view the effects of disease on tissues.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What do the effects of disease on a cellular level really mean? Can you imagine the impact of students mastering their microscope while they view the diseased tissues they are studying? For students to view these tissues themselves, instead of just read about them, has a huge impact!

We are a very small school and as such have to fundraiser for most things we need.

My students work super hard taking many dual credit classes with their honors high school classes. Our school has only been open for three years and as such we do not have fully stocked labs or classrooms. The students have mandatory community service hours to complete each year, but many of them go well beyond the required amount. They learn to give back to the community and become interactive young people. Many are on track to enter the medical field as a practitioner or as a research technician. All students are geared up to enter a four year college as they have already been taking classes at the college level. Over 60% will be first time college graduates in their family. They work very hard and are dedicated to making a better life for themselves and their families. Even though the campus is small and under equipped they are determined to keep improving the campus as they improve themselves.

My Project

The materials we are requesting will help us with our Medical Interventions class as well as our Medical Microbiology class. We have great microscopes but we lack prepared slides and materials to study various tissues of the human body and diseases. In addition students need to visualize microbes that cause human ailments. We are requesting a variety of prepared slides and poster to allow the students to view the mighty microbes and cells of the human body. Nothing opens up the world quite like viewing its components through the lens of a microscope. We will use the materials to enrich the lessons as we learn about Medical Interventions and Medical Microbiology. These materials will be used every year to help students see what the unaided eye cannot.

Student learn best with hands-on experiences.

The lab materials we are requesting; prepared microscopic slides and posters of microbiological topics will help students see more than a textbook can offer. The materials will last for years allowing students to benefit from your contribution to our classroom far into the future. We thank you for your consideration of our More Mighty Microbes class project!
