Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a Houston neighborhood with humble community families that are very eager to help us. They bring their children to our school to continue improving their learning skills. The students are smart, responsible and hardworkers, but they need more materials to have more opportunities.
After Hurricane Harvey we have noticed that a huge number of families in our school were affected.
If before this catastrophe their resources were low, now they are even in a worse situation. This is why I as a literacy teacher and more than ever, would like to provide my students with as many reading resources as possible so there learning is not influenced by their current situation.
My Project
My students need a touch tablet to digitize their art projects. They love art projects and they enjoy drawing and sharing their creations with their friends but we want to go beyond and connect these projects with people outside the school. Also, we will use the rest of the materials to get ready our workstations and work the objectives that they have to achieve during this school year.
We are living in a connected world and we need to connect and share our projects with people.
My students need more materials to have more opportunities to achieve their goals. First Grade could be hard for them but I'm sure it will be easiest with these materials. The materials are plastic fruits to create a market in class and students work the coins. Thanks to this they will practice real-life situations and help them to be more prepared for the future. We will also need some folders to be able to work individually because the ones we have are broken.
