This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a welcoming elementary school on the outskirts of a small city in South Carolina. We have a fantastic staff and great students that come to school eager to learn. My students come from all walks of life and socio-economic statuses, which creates an interesting and often beneficial blend at school.
Although I have many wonderful materials at my disposal, largely thanks to generous donors, some materials are expendable and need to be replenished from year to year.
My students need three-ring binders, printer ink, and milkshake straws to close out the 2017-2018 school year.
My Project
I am aware that this is an odd blend of materials, but each item has a different and essential function. Three-ring binders will hold music for our bell choir as well as songs we use in music class throughout the year. I need enough small binders for each child in my classroom plus 12 larger notebooks for bell choir music.
Printer ink is essential to any classroom these days, as we teachers print out new resources to share with our students on a daily basis.
Printer ink runs out fast! Finally, the milkshake straws are for a fourth grade unit on pitch and the science of sound. This unit goes hand in hand with my students' science standards.
