I am a first-grade teacher at a suburban, Title I school in southeastern Virginia. One hundred percent of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Many receive food bags to help support their families over the weekend. Of our student population, 80% are considered to be minority and 74% are economically disadvantaged. Some of my students struggle with language. Some of my students struggle with self-control. One thing they don't struggle with is their eagerness to learn!
We are a diverse classroom with many different learning styles & abilities, but one thing is for certain: my first graders are amazing!
Although we use technology in our classroom, we love exploring our world and learning through hands-on experiences. My students love working independently during our reading and math small group blocks. And, we love reading and incorporating our experiences into our writing. We are a busy classroom, but we are busy having fun and learning at the same time!
My Project
We are a busy first grade class and we love to learn as much as we can, especially when using technology! We currently have an Osmo station that we use during reading and math small groups, but we want more options. My students are learning how to code and enjoy games that challenge them to use coding to problem solve. Adding the Osmo Coding Jam game will not only provide coding opportunities, but it also incorporates music which is so important for their learning. The Osmo Creative Monster game will not only foster coding skills, but it will challenge my students to be creative problem solvers. And, the Osmo Pizza game will give my students the opportunity to use their imagination, be creative, and practice math skills! Theses Osmo applications will be a great addition to our small group time and we are excited to see how much we will learn.
