Were you a fan of comic books growing up? How about cartoons? Or maybe you were just a book lover. Well, GRAPHIC NOVELS are all three of those genres rolled up into one!
I have three classes and over 90 students - all on different levels.
Graphic novels would be such an addition to my classroom library because it will help out every single kid I teach, regardless of what level he or she is on. The pictures in the book can help my struggling readers who have a difficult time visualizing and comprehending what they are reading. The advanced language in Shakespeare graphic novels and "Frankenstein" would introduce my reading lovers to books and authors that they usually would not encounter until high school! At because many of the graphic novels come in long sets of over 6 books, once my kids find one book they enjoy, they'll be THRILLED to discover that there are five more waiting for them!
My Project
Having these graphic novels in my classroom library would cover many firsts. It will be the first time in my over 14 years of teaching that I would have a Graphic Novel section in my library. It will be the first time 7th graders are exposed to William Shakespeare and other classics. It will be the first time that struggling readers can receive some "visual support" while they read, what may be to them, a challenging text. It will also be the first time in a LONG TIME that I got some new and exciting books added to my library, and that would make EVERYONE happy!
So come on and take advantage of this rare opportunity to help the excellent reads, the struggling readers, and the in-between readers all at the same time!
Everyone can benefit from these great books in a way that is just right for them.
