This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is located in the poorest congressional district in the nation, and all students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. The school is predominately Latino and African American. Thirty percent of the students are English language learners, and some are the first of their families to graduate. Despite all of this, 100% of our graduating seniors are college or career bound.

Our students should have the same opportunities as any other student in the country.

They work hard to succeed without letting anything get in their way. As a community school, each year our graduation rate has increased, and we want to make their learning as meaningful and purposeful as possible.

We have an after school program going on every day of the week. The students are always asking for snacks both before the program begins for the day and after it ends. This project will help replenish the snacks that we have been providing for them this year. The great thing is this project as a variety of both healthy snacks and a little sugary snacks for when their blood sugar gets low towards the end of the day and this helps fuel them up.
