Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a school in Portland, OR that has a Spanish Immersion program. My 25 third graders are very special to me! They are bilingual in English and Spanish. They are fun, energetic, caring and very smart. They come from diverse cultural and language backgrounds. Our classroom is a safe space were they can learn, challenge themselves and thrive.
Every morning they enter the classroom happy and eager to learn.
They love read alouds as well as read independently.
My Project
We recently got a project funded thanks to Donors Choose and received three wobble cushions and three floor seats. When we first opened the boxes the students were so excited and started to use them immediately. They liked them so much that they said we needed more so more people can use them at a time. They have been so good about sharing and taking turns to use the floor seats when they are on the carpet and the wobble cushions when they are seating on their chairs.
I have noticed that students who use flexible seating are able to focus more and have a more positive attitude toward classwork and can complete their tasks on time.
It was been great to see students taking more independence in getting the tools they need to learn better.
By helping us with your generous contributions, we will have more seats and cushions available so more students can use them at a time.
