My Students

My school is a very unique school in our large urban district. It is made up of a very diverse group of students that nearly mirrors the make-up of our city. Most schools in our district are divided by class, race and socio-economic status. However, our school has a broad range of cultures, races, ethnicities and socio-economic groups.

We are a "salad bowl" that brings students together in a strong learning environment.

With this diverse student body, I find it helpful to create a comfortable learning environment. The students appreciate this alternative setting.

My Project

Last year I started a flexible seating layout for my high school students. It was a big success. Students were more comfortable and eager to come to class; which made them more engaged and more interested in learning.

This year I would like to expand my flexible seating options for my students.

While I do have some more "traditional " desks in my class, I noticed that most students gravitated to the less traditional seats. I would like to add "wobble" chairs, more camp seats and lap desks for the classroom.

With the addition of new options, I think that my students will be able to focus better which will lead to greater achievement.
