My students are 5-6 year olds who come to school every day with a smile on their faces and are eager to learn.
I am a first-year teacher, teaching full-day kindergarten to 23 students. Most of my students are English Language Learners who come from very low-income homes. At our school, more than 100% of the student population receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Overall, my students are caring, enjoy hands-on experiences, and enjoy learning new things every day. As their teacher, I enjoy teaching them every single day.
My Project
Many of my students have difficulty remaining focused and attentive for long periods of time causing learning to be challenging for them. When things get tough and hard, my kindergartners are typically more off task, which includes moving around. Having flexible seating such as wobble chairs are proven to help with getting rid of some of those distractions! Students are more successful when they are allowed to move around as they are working.
By creating alternative flexible seating, it will allow my students to focus their attention better on their classwork while being able to move around and stay engaged in learning.
Allowing my students to make choices with their seating, as well as to allow movement while working, encourages student success and student growth in the classroom. Having this flexible seating options will allow my kindergartners to get their wiggles out and exercise using their gross motor exercises when they just need a break.
