Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Being new to a Title One school, I thought our school would have plenty of Title One money in our budget for resources to help meet the needs of all students, however, that is not always the case. Traditionally, first graders have desks so they can start working on organizational skills. My classroom has old kindergarten style trapezoid tables with tiny chairs, that my kids have already outgrown. Our rug has seen better days but it's still our favorite place to meet and hang out. I can only imagine what new decor would do to the enthusiasm level of my first graders.
My kids deserve a change from their old style kinder classroom to their new, more inviting classroom.
My Project
New furniture will be an exciting addition to our classroom. My students love relaxing on the carpet to read, but due to dust allergies, some of my students have to stay in their chairs. The carpet is also small and does not accommodate twenty growing bodies. A new carpet will allow for more students to be able to enjoy flexible seating whether it's for work or play.
My students enjoying reading to each other, so the ottomans are a perfect meeting place for partners converse and share their ideas.
These will also help with storage since I do not have cabinets in my classroom. Win, win!
