Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Five year old students are the liveliest most creative students possible. They can use their imagination to entertain themselves for as long as possible. However, it is possible to stunt their imagination with the lack of props in the dramatic play area. My class for the upcoming year will consist of about 53 students who classify for the monolingual class with Spanish support. But their primary language outside of the class and even in the classroom is Spanish. These students are beginning to be exposed to the English language on a different level other than TV. At this point in their lives English starts to be incorporated into their daily language. The importance of a dramatic play area with the necessary props such as: play food, costumes, kitchen supplies, and occupational props will allow these kindergartners to expand their English vocabulary. During the dramatic play center time, students are less pressured to speak out and they can rely in the help of their friends to learn the name of the different objects in the center. These objects will allow my students to have a little more drama in their lives and in turn allow them to feel more comfortable speaking a language that is new to them. The cost to fund this proposal is $198.65. It includes play costumes and hats, play multicultural food, play fruits and vegetables, and kitchen supplies.
