This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My amazing students are talkative, creative, and bursting with energy. They love to write, take videos and pictures, make playlists, and connect to the outside world through their devices. They also are thinkers. They write, take notes, are detectives, and analyze the old fashion way. They like to get out of their desks to do their learning.
My school loves to see our students shine through their projects and activities.
We are part rural/part suburban community, located in western Metro Atlanta.
My Project
I am requesting a diverse selection of books so that my students can have more options with reading. The students I teach are diverse, spirited, and are building a love of reading. Every week, we spend a class focusing on independent reading. Students are able to relax with a book that they choose. At the end of each class, they record in their reading journals predictions, "a-ha" moments, etc. By building up my classroom library, it allows my students to have more options in their reading so they are not limited to what the school may offer. This is something they may not be able to get outside of school.
When students are able to have choices that reflect their points of view, they become more engaged in learning.
Diverse books will allow my students this option. I will be able to help them grow as students and readers. With these books, they will be able to raise their reading scores and levels as well as become adults who like to read.
