These are some wonderful K-5 students from a rural, low socioeconomic status area who were devastated by Hurricane Florence. Approximately 25% of our students and staff were temporarily displaced by the storm, and more than three months later some are still not back to their homes. Our school was closed for 29 instructional days. It is amazing to get back to "normal".
The student body is comprised of a mix of white, African American and Hispanic children.
Many of them get the most love and attention when they come to school. Many of our students come from single parent, blended, or nontraditional families. These are kids in need of creative and innovative experiences to keep them interested, motivated and in line with the technological learning that takes place at more affluent schools.
We are so fortunate to have DonorsChoose to help fund our projects.
My Project
Students of all ages love the mini trampolines and have lots of fun using them. These are age appropriate and have handles for the little ones and are strong and durable to handle the older students. These mini trampolines will be used for fitness stations, warm-ups and free play. Students will bounce, can do jumping jacks, skateboard and ski jump moves, and use their imagination to make up additional moves.
Trampolines are effective for promoting fitness in fun and active ways.
Trampolines help improve cardiovascular fitness, eye-foot coordination, reflexes, timing, and large muscle strength. Students love to bounce on them and teachers love them because they can teach different large muscle group activities. These are well built and safe and will be an excellent contribution to my physical education program, which is built around fitness and lifetime sports.
