My Students

The students in this 9th grade English classroom are resilient and bright learners, who are now running on their third year of irregularity. There are definitely gaps in what they know and can do with the English language when it comes to reading and writing.

My Project

The students that are a product of COVID-19 learning, have had their time and resources limited in the classrooms and at home. They have not had the opportunity to process what has happened to them, academically and socially, in a way that will help them learn and grow. I believe that giving them literature, both fiction and nonfiction, that helps them make that connection to emotional and social empathy, will make them better readers and writers as they move forward into their remaining years in high school.
