Do you remember when you learned how to read? Do you remember the school bully? Reading and bullying don't usually go together but this project will encourage reading and maybe a possible career choice and hopefully eliminate those dreadful bullies!
I teach 1st grade at an AMAZING public school in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.
I love the enthusiasm my students have towards learning. It is their enthusiasm that encourages me to look for ways to enhance my teaching and find great, innovative materials to make learning fun. Their love of learning is what drives me to give them the best because that is what they deserve!
My Project
The book sets in this project are all about the King School Kids in Mrs. Hall’s class. These students mirror the diversity of my classroom and the world around us because the King School Kids represent various ethnic origins and come from a variety of family structures. My students will have no trouble finding King School Kids with whom they can identify. These books include accessible text and full-color illustrations to support the text for beginning readers. We will use these books in small groups to build our reading skills and these books will help teach about acceptance and bullying. With titles like Nice & Polite, I'm Too Tall, and Go Away, students will read these books together and then have discussions about feelings and make personal connections to the characters and plot of the story. One character, Robert, is even in a wheelchair. What a great way to teach about acceptance and differences! We will use the book, Bullying in Schools, as a reference during the year.
The book bins will help store these amazing books and keep us organized.
All these requested books will be the catalysts to help my students learn how to be stronger readers, provide support for each other, learn how to deal with bullying and in the end become better people! Your donation could make a difference in one child's life. Isn't it worth it?
