Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of our students with disabilities come from low-income families. They face many challenges in their lives. As their teachers, we are hoping to provide them with tools, materials, and opportunities to learn new skills. We are responsible for our students to make progress in the areas of language, social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
Our preschool students have mild to severe disabilities but they enjoy learning through play and art.
They are curious, happy, and hands-on learners. They enjoy coming to school to learn.
My Project
My preschool students with disabilities love books! They love new books even more! They learn how to take care of books. They also learn how to hold a book and turn the pages. As they explore the book, they point to pictures and label them, increasing their vocabulary. They also learn how to share a book with a peer which increases their socialization. Most importantly, they will have more books in our classroom library to choose from when we stay indoors during a windy or rainy day. More books in our classroom will also add to their imagination which will increase their pretend play skills.
