My Students

In Second Grade, students spend a lot of time reading "just right" books during Reader's Workshop.

My students are twenty-five eager Second Graders and the majority of them are boys!

During the first half of the year they have devoured the books in our classroom library. Our school is a large elementary school in an urban neighborhood with a large at-risk population.

My Project

My students love to choose their own books. Each day students take part in Reader's Workshop. Students have their own book box full of just-right books of their choice. Providing a rich classroom library full of a variety of books keeps the excitement of reading alive in our classroom!

Providing a wide variety of series books for my students to choose from helps each child fall in love with their favorite characters such as Captain Awesome, Humphrey, and Benny & Penny.

Providing more books for my students will help them continue their journey of becoming independent, lifelong readers!
