My Students

First grade is a wonderful and amazing place to be! My students enter school every day eager and ready to learn. They have a wonderful and natural curiosity about the world. The students are each unique learners, but each one has many special gifts to offer to the world. The students come from diverse backgrounds with a variety of languages and cultures. What makes us special is our strong sense of community.

We work together to create a classroom culture that fosters creativity, hard work, acceptance and celebrations of both successes and failures as an important part of learning.

Each day, I am fascinated by their drive and the ways they continually find to support each other! They work and learn through play and conversation, as well as through their written work.

My Project

Each student will be allowed to choose a special book to take home on his/her birthday and keep forever!

This project is designed to create a birthday book cart for our school.

Each time a child receives a new book, they treasure it! It is not uncommon to see students walking around holding it, taking it to recess to read or leaving it out on their desk as a reminder of their excitement of receiving a new book. The credit from Scholastic Book Clubs will be used to purchase hundreds of books at affordable prices. The books purchased will include simple picture books, favorite stories and more complex chapter books. This will enable all readers at our school to find a book that suits them. This project will ensure that every student in our school, regardless of any other factors, will receive a shiny new book of choice and be recognized on their special day. These books will be theirs to take home and share with their families, fostering parent involvement and promoting literacy. This project is part 2 of written to provide books for more grade levels.
