My Students

I teach in a high-poverty school district with an amazing mix of young learners. Access to quality materials is always one of the limiting factors in my curriculum. Nevertheless, the students that make up my classes are dedicated to learning.

I teach both Physics and Living Environment (Biology) so most of my yearly budget is used while purchasing consumables for laboratory experiments.

Our Environmental Club has been enjoying walks after school around our campus and I have many students that have become interested in learning about the birds of our area. We have a few binoculars, but our club has grown too large and would love to give everybody a chance to see the wildlife around us.

My Project

Many of my students don't spend time outdoors during their free time. It is one of my Environmental Club's main goals to remedy this and get them to connect with their surroundings. The binoculars will help engage my students with the wildlife that surrounds them. We have seen many different animals on our walks, but they are often difficult to see from the edge of our school's property.

Armed with the proper tools, my students will better appreciate all that we have.

These kinds of encounters lead to questions which lead to better understanding. That is a worthy goal of this project.
