I am an intervention specialist in an inclusion classroom. My students are identified with a range of disabilities including autism, specific learning disabilities, ADHD, emotional disorders, and other health impairments. We also have an English Language Learner and several at risk students. Additionally, we have typical and several advanced learners.
While most of students come from economically disadvantaged homes, they are eager learners.
Many of our students cannot afford basic school supplies. Sixty-eight percent of our school is on free and reduced lunch.
My Project
I have included reading materials and hands-on models that will help my students understand the importance of bees in our world. Many students from inner city and suburban homes fear bees as insects that will hurt them. Several of the books in this package will help to reduce the stigma of bees and teach my students that they are an important part of the environment. Using the books and the hand held models, we will study the life cycles and habits of these amazing creatures. After learning about bee habitats, each student will receive an insect house to take home. These insect homes not only provide the bees a place to live, my students can place the home outside their own homes and continue to observe and learn about bees over the summer.
