I am the Physical Education teacher at our school. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 70% of our students receiving free lunch. I see 300 first and second graders throughout my week. My students love engaging in many different physical fitness activities. I am often told that P.E. is their favorite activity at school! Our school strives to create an atmosphere of love and acceptance where every child can be successful. Often times school is the only place where a child feels loved and accepted for who they are. My goal as a P.E. teacher is to provide that safe and loving environment where my kids are learning while strengthening their fine and gross motor skills.
My Project
Physical Education programs are vital to our students growth and achievement in and out of the classroom. These types of programs are needed to increase physical competence, cooperation, building muscle and gross motor skills, along with improving hand-eye coordination. My students will love using the parachute to build listening skills, large and small muscle movements, coordination, and cooperative skills all while enjoying the pure fun of working together. They will also enjoy using the scarves to toss and catch, juggle, and increase coordination. I believe the key to teaching kids to love physical fitness is to use a variety of tools to show how fun active movement can be and why it is important for our bodies to learn and grow physically.
