My students are very respectful and kind; these students are curious about the world around them. However, for many, English is a second language and they need practice with understanding vocabulary and sayings. They come to school ready to learn and explore new ideas.
Each child is curious about various topics and puts forth his or her best effort each day.
We incorporate several teaching strategies, small groups, individual conferring, and flexible seating to accommodate to all learners. In addition, I read the directions and questions aloud for many students.
My Project
One way to help motivate 21st Century learners is technology. Using technology, laptops, in the classroom is a natural approach to what students will encounter in the workplace. Along with practicing skills, they will have the opportunity to learn netiquette, typing, and computer software.
Research states that devices can increase student technology use, allow more student centered and project-based instruction, and greater student engagement.
I would use the laptops to have students read, write, research, and create media that will encourage continued skill practice. For example, with new Fine Arts standards, I would like to allow students to work on digital storytelling in our immigration unit as well as create a representation of America with technology. With these devices, I will be able to create google classroom projects and students may study at their own pace.
