Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My passion for science is evident from the clothes and dresses I wear to school to the constant daily world connections and stories I bring to each lesson. I indulge every question, and get my students thinking about the world through a scientific lens in order to solve real world problems using logic, developing theories, collecting evidence and drawing conclusion. We focus on hands on learning, collaborating and bring joy to learning in general.

Many of my 120+ students have never had a “real” science class or felt excited about science until they enter my space where every single student despite their backgrounds, learning challenges and gaps can feel successful.

I teach at a title I school and do everything I can to eliminate barriers and provide opportunities so that my students can always feel comfortable, safe and excited to learn in my space.

My Project

Middle school is a time of transition and learning of who one is. Many students are struggling and seeking validation from others. During one's monthly cycle, accidents can happen that can have devastating effects on a persons self esteem and sense of self worth. Having the sanitary napkins on hand will add a layer of protection that will help a student maintain their confidence and ability to manage themselves. Knowing that there are extra supplies so they don't have to feel embarrassed because they don't have any will keep a student from being distracted from their education and uncomfortable sitting in class all day.
