I have a classroom of 16 lively and curious 4 year olds. They are eager to learn and try new things. We love to be able to provide them with unique opportunities they might miss out on because we are an Urban school classroom.
We love providing the children with experiences that will enrich their school day experience.
We are a low income/high poverty district and our children may face many challenges. It is a wonderful challenge to make our children's day.
My Project
Many children enter our classroom with a lack of fine-motor skills. The Montessori philosophy stresses and encourages the development of fine motor skills though the use of practical life materials.
The materials we are requesting will encourage children to use and develop their fine motor skills and develop academic targets through materials that are interesting to them.
For example, scooping, pouring, screwing, twisting and punching holes in paper, tying, buttoning, zipping.
Many of the materials strengthen their muscles and help them develop an academic concept as they play. These small muscles they are using and developing will help them with the ability to hold a pencil and write or draw, use scissors, zip their zippers and tie their shoes.
