Help me give my students the experience of learning all about their bodies, senses, and feelings. Students will build an understanding of the human with visual models and tactile materials!
Our classroom supports preschoolers ages 3-5 with all abilities. I am grateful to be the teacher of two classes that attend our school program. Our community of learners includes learners with and without disabilities. We work on general development including gross and fine motor, communication, social skills, and cognitive skills. Students work together to learn how to communicate their ideas, build friendships, problem-solve, play, and attend to classroom activities.
Our students love coming to school.
One of my favorite things about our classes is how students learn to be proud of their achievements and feel safe enough to practice hard things. These students are resilient, persistent, and engaging. It makes learning fun for everyone!
We are fortunate to have a classroom team that consists of me as the lead special education teacher and two wonderful paraprofessionals. We also work closely together with a speech-language pathologist, an occupational therapist, and a physical therapist. Learning is structured, balanced between student-led, and adult-led activities, and inclusive.
The students are so loved and so deserving of high-quality learning.
My Project
Every year, with the help from monsters, we learn about how bodies, the 5 senses, and feelings work. We read Where the Wild Things Are, Go Away Big Green Monster, and we pretend to play with the Doctor's Office.
These new materials will bring hands-on learning to our Human Body and Feelings Unit.
Our learners learn by playing, and with the model and mirrors, we will be able to explore using multiple senses. Students will be able to explore emotions with the mix and match puzzles. The puppet toys and visuals will also connect to our literacy curriculum to make learning connections throughout the classroom and our routine!
Students will build their sense of belonging and build their relationships with the world. With your help, we will continue to learn how to safely manage our bodies and feelings, and identity.
