Help me give my students hands on activities to help them practice challenging second grade skills. The instant learning centers, puzzles, and file folders will be perfect to use in our classroom.
Our students come from an inner-city neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio and are from very diverse backgrounds. We are a public, charter school with approximately 300 students, many of which come from low income families. Our population is comprised of many races, nationalities, and religions. We are a community school that welcomes family involvement. We pride ourselves on many things, including our achievement, our friendly, welcoming environment, and on teaching students at their ability levels to help them reach their fullest potential.
Each day I work with small groups of students in reading and math while the rest of the class works on independent learning centers.
My Project
These learning games will be used daily during my math class. While I work with a small group of 8 students, the other 16 work independently at their seats on skills that we've already learned. The material requested will be a perfect addition to our center rotation. Students will complete the centers independently while I work with a small group of students at my table.
The activities I have chosen were picked because I know they will captivate the students' attention and keep them actively engaged while they improve their skills.
I also focused on skills that are challenging for many of my students to give them practice in a fun, engaging way with activities they want to do. My students will be so excited to complete the puzzles, measure the dinosaurs, and match the cards. They won't even realize they're learning. It's so important for students to be able to have hands on activities to help foster their learning. This project will help my students succeed in mastering the important math skills of counting money, telling time, and measuring.
