My students are energetic and enthusiastic learners who live in a culturally diverse community. They are constantly eager to learn all they can about the world around them, how things work, and the people that live in their community.
My students are very interested in how they can make a difference in the world.
When they see a problem, they like to create solutions to try. If the first solution doesn't work, they put their heads together and try a new solution.
My Project
It is important for my students to build a solid foundation of financial literacy. We have a money unit, and for many, it is the first time they have learned about money. Many students struggle to tell the difference between coins, and they need games and books to help make these concepts real for them and so though this project I will create the Money Olympics. The book, Bunny Money, will be a great way to introduce our unit on money. After reading the book, students begin the Math Olympics which will consist of 4 money management stations. At station one, they will use the money dice and add up the value of their rolls. After 5 rolls, they will compare amounts and see who has earned more money. At station two, they will solve money riddles to see if they can successful get the combination to open the lock. Station three will be where they need to solve the money rod puzzles. The last station will house the money quick pick cards. The challenges at these stations are differentiated so that all students can be successful and be challenged. If students are able to complete all of the stations in the Money Olympics, they will earn a gold medal, a silver medal if they complete three tasks, and a bronze medal if they complete two.
It is important for young students to develop a strong sense of financial literacy.
These games are a great way for students to be engaged and learn money management skills with a smile on their face.
