My Students
"If a child cannot learn in the way we teach, we must teach in a way that the child can learn." - author unknown.
My school has a high percentage of free and reduced-price lunch recipients.
We also have a large diversity of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. This year, I have a mixed ability group consisting of nine boys and eleven girls. Some have grasped reading skills at a faster rate than others, and some need a little more time. They are eager to learn.
My Project
We learn how to identify money in first grade. We learn the coins, how to count coins, and how to make change. The items I am requesting will help my student learn not only these skills but financial literacy and how important money is in the world. They will learn about opportunity cost and saving, how to spend money responsibly, and how to make sure they know when they even have enough money and how much more they need. This project will not only help my first graders learn their important first grade standards but will teach the future generation how to make sure they are financial literate for the real world.
I am requesting books about money, DVDs that will teach about money, money stamps, and piggy banks for my class to start saving their coins.
We will take these piggy banks and start collecting our money. We will come up with a class project to spend our money on. Then we will count the money over time and see how long it takes to get to our goal!
