My Project

I teach vocational and independent living skills to transition-aged young adults with disabilities. We assist students in becoming as independent as possible as outlined in the CT Core Transition Skills. My students complete internships and we assist them in gaining competitive employment prior to obtaining their diploma. The goal of this project is to improve financial literacy skills and provide register training to increase employability. Most establishments now require workers to be cross-trained (and therefore must know how to utilize a register). My students are hands-on learners and require direct instruction and repetition. With these supplies, my students would receive the additional staff support needed to gain these necessary money skills and the confidence to execute them in a work environment.
