Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is a 2nd grade dual language (English-Mandarin) class of about 23 students New York. Most of my students come from low-income families and my school is a Title I school. Many of them receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
Despite the many challenges they face, such as little food at home, my students are always so smiley, so kind, thoughtful, and so generous.
They will save their snacks and surprise me by leaving snacks such as an apple, a banana, or a pack of cranberries on my desk! Their words, "You need brain food!" make my heart melt! They are intelligent, fun loving, creative, and spontaneous.
I am looking to provide my students with hands-on, fun, and meaningful learning experiences. I need your help to make that possible.
My Project
April is National Financial Literacy Month and my school just held a Family Financial Literacy Night. Money is part of our 2nd grade Math curriculum.
It's my belief that children learn best via playing games and having fun.
So I am requesting for financial literacy board games such as Monopoly, Pay Day, Quizmo, Game of Life, Making Change Octominoes for my students to have hands on fun learning board game time during recess and Math periods. These will greatly motivate my students to be more task focused and engaged. I intend to incorporate these board games and introduce these financial literacy books into my Math lessons on the unit of Money.
The variety of different leveled financial literacy books that I'm requesting such as "Money Sense", "Managing Money", "A Kid's Guide to Earning Money", "What's It Worth---the Value of Money", "Money Talks", "The History of Money", "The Young Investor Projects and Activities to Making Money" will allow my students of different reading levels to read and learn more about healthy financial habits and money management during our literacy reading periods.
I'm hoping that through these board games and reading these financial literacy books, my students will learn how to avoid making money mistakes later in real life, how to delay instant gratification and wait to make a purchase and better manage their money.
Money matters! Thanks for your kind consideration in helping fund this project and giving my students an opportunity to learn how to make good money decisions!
