My students are in a 100% free or reduced breakfast/lunch Title 1 school. My students have many diverse backgrounds and I want my students to know no matter what their economic background is every student can be successful and I want them to never give up on reaching for their dreams. I want my students to walk into my classroom everyday full of life, ready to learn and excited about their education, knowing they can do anything they can put their mind to.
I believe my students should take responsibility for their education and take pride in their knowledge and brain power, I ask them throughout the day what their job is; they tell me “to learn and get smarter.” My students are excited about coming to school and they are eager to learn.
They come to school because they know that their brain gets smarter and there are BIGGER things for them once they graduate. I talk about them being scholars and the importance of education.
My Project
By using these hands-on money manipulatives my students will be able to sort plastic coins and paper currency, remember the names and values of each coin or paper currency, and quiz each other with money flash cards.
By creating individual money banks; students will "shop" during station time and give each child a "real world" experience while actively using money banks.
Money banks are created with paper currency and plastic coins to help support each student on state standards, grasp the understanding of currency, while helping each child learn how to make change/create the cost of an item.
Students will also be able to work in pairs to quiz each other using interactive money flash cards.
